SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, repairs and performs routine maintenance to hospital machinery and equipment, such as conveyors, patient stretchers and beds, laundry equipment, laboratory equipment and motor vehicles. Repairs and fabricates machinery and equipment parts.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Observes mechanical devices such as pumps, motors, conveyors, systems, etc. in operation to determine cause of trouble. Coordinates time of repair with affected personnel and requisitions materials needed.
Repairs malfunctioning equipment or machinery by; dismantling devices to gain access to, and removing and replacing defective parts and adjusting parts of devices and control instruments. Installing special functional and structural parts or modifications. Tests performance after repair is completed.
Welds, brazes, solders; burns, and operates hand and drill presses. Operates sheet metal shears, lathes and benders, all mechanics tools and engine timing light.
Performs electronic repairs by troubleshooting control circuits on beds, pneumatic tube system personnel/objects sensors at automatic doors, etc, ensuring compliance with Joint Commission regulations as well as local safety codes.
Repairs or fabricates machinery and equipment parts, using metalworking tools, duplicates or designs parts based on need, use, size, and frequency of use.
Performs inspections, routine maintenance, major and minor repairs on all laundry machinery, all types of trayveyor systems, automatic doors throughout the complex, beds, wheelchairs, stretcher tables, carts of all types and sizes, vehicles and snow plow equipment. Assembles, cleans, inspects, tests mechanical and electrical repairs in bed shop, garage and also out in the field. Some repairs must be made while machinery is still running at heat ranges of 300F and over.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Completion of High School or Trade School with courses in welding, basic electricity and mechanics.
Ability to read and understand blueprints, design parts to be fabricated and to investigate cause and resolve equipment malfunctioning.
Demonstrated knowledge of standard maintenance and metal working tools, electronic diagnostic tools (i.e. digital and analog multimeter, leakage meter, signal traces or logic probe), their proper use and care.
Thorough understanding of electronic controls as well as pneumatic principles to maintain the tube system.
Must have a good driving record, meet and maintain the appropriate and valid driver's licenses in order to operate motor vehicles as required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, and in accordance with Brown University Health's Fleet Risk Control Policy.
EXPERIENCE:
Three to four years of related experience required.
WORK ENVIRONEMNT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical ability to carry tools and lift moderately heavy items.
Manual dexterity to take machinery apart.

Pay Range:
