SUMMARY: The Manager Pathology reports to the Director of Pathology Administration and the medical director of the laboratory section, and is responsible for administration and technical management of Pathology laboratory section or group of sections for the academic medical center site. Coordinates administrative functions such as personnel, budget preparation and analyses, statistical and financial reporting, development and monitoring of new programs, and updates section(s) procedure manual(s). May develop and recommend programs to increase market share for outpatient testing. RESPONSIBILITIES: Interviews, hires, schedules, trains, assigns work, evaluates, and when necessary, provides for discipline and discharge of employees within area of responsibility. Provides guidance and counsel as necessary to resolve sensitive/complex employee relations matters.Ensures that established departmental policies and procedures are utilized and enforced in subordinate area of responsibility. Formulates, recommends, implements and administers changes in polices and procedures for subordinate laboratory section(s). Develops policy and procedure manuals for assigned sections.Meets with sales representatives in order to review and evaluate new equipment, supplies, etc.Gathers data, statistics, and the like and assists in the preparation and monitoring of budgets for subordinate area of responsibility and presents such reports to the Director for review and approval.Reviews records and reports of daily work and quality control, ensuring that all work is efficiently processed and coordinates with other departmental laboratories and that all quality control procedures, statistics, records and the like are updated and maintained.Troubleshoots laboratory equipment, repairing minor operating malfunctions, coordinates preventative maintenance schedules. Evaluates new equipment prior to use in the laboratory section(s).Ensures that expendable supplies are available to complete laboratory procedures.May provide for the clinical experience of students and residents within assigned laboratory section(s).Maintains regular contact with other departmental laboratory sections, and other Hospital departments when communicating test results, explaining procedures, enhancing interface, etc. May serve on inter and intradepartmental committees representing services provided by the Department of Pathology.According to laboratory supervised, may have responsibility to identify, develop, recommend and implement programs to develop, maintain and enhance market share of outpatient testing. Develops and maintains effective customer relations to support marketing efforts.Assists in monitoring and inspecting laboratory sections throughout the department for compliance with various accrediting regulations (CAP, Joint Commission) and safety standards.Provides ongoing training programs to support continued professional development of staff.Prepares recurring operational statistics depicting the activity within assigned section(s) for review by department head.Assists on special and research projects as requested. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: QUALIFICATIONS-EDUCATION:Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or closely related field or equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA standards.National certification (or eligible) in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology by ASCP or equivalent.Advanced or Master’s Degree work in the area of specialization is desired but specialized knowledge can also be obtained through equivalent work experience.High degree of administrative skills to manage a large and complex laboratory section or group of sections ensuring that all procedures are preformed efficiently and that all quality controls are followed.High degree of professional expertise of specific procedures, equipment utilized, controls, etc. in order to function as resource person to subordinate personnel.Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to interface effectively with all levels of personnel within the Hospital and with various external sources, including communicating various services available and developing and maintaining effective customer relations.Supervisory skills effectively direct and evaluate subordinate staff.Additional formal training in the area of technical expertise and/or administration (up to one year).QUALIFICATIONS-EXPERIENCE:Three to five years progressively more responsible work experience required, including two to three years of lead or supervisory experience in a laboratory environment.

$93,399.49-$154,117.60
