Physican Assistant

SUMMARY: Under general supervision of the Chairman of the Department of Hematology/Oncology, Academic Medical Center, and the Director of Cancer Services and Ambulatory Care, is responsible for evaluation of, and development of treatment plans for hematology/oncology patients. Assists in the care and management of hematology/oncology patients to include, but not limited to, admission history and physical, ongoing assessment and intervention, coordination of inpatient and/or outpatient care, and discharge planning. The core Success Factors include: Instill Trust and Value Differences Patient and Community Focus and Collaborate RESPONSIBILITIES: PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Functions as a clinical expert by providing direct, episodic health care to prevent and meet the acute symptomatic and palliative care needs of patients with cancer. Practices collaboratively with the interdisciplinary health care team to provide comprehensive health assessments; differential diagnosis; ordering, supervising and interpreting diagnostic tests; prescribing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments.Participates in the development of a patient care plan with the registered nurses and the attending physician. Provides educational and liaison supports to health care team members.Participates in the education of patients, families, and caregivers regarding any disease process, procedures, post-procedural care, and expected outcomes and progress.May perform other duties as requested, by the attending physician, including, but not limited to, evaluation of patients in the outpatient setting and triage of emergency visits to the outpatient setting. May collaborate with the attending physician in the writing of chemotherapy orders. Always maintains due regard for compulsive communication between the Nurse Practitioner and the attending physician or his/her delegate.Assists in clinical research projects, including data acquisition, entry and analysis as needed.Participates in quality improvement teams, and other committees, as needed.Maintains quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies, procedures, and objectives. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BASIC KNOWLEDGE:Graduate from an accredited Nurse practitioner program with MS degree.Certified by the American Nurses Association (ANA) or by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) to practice in the expanded role.License must include prescriptive privileges. Have completed a course in American Heart Association Basic Life Supportdvanced Cardiac Life Support.OCN credentialing within two years of employment.EXPERIENCEuccessful completion of supervised three month clinical internship or equivalent in clinically intensive atmosphere (hospital) preferably in the area of Internal Medicine.Must have patient care services, procedures and privileges approved by the sponsoring physician.WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICIAL REQUIREMENTS:Healthcare environment such as acute care hospital, physicians’ office and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Pay Range:

$125,000.00-$158,593.75
