Post Doc NIH Rsch Fellow- Senior Research Fellow

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Research Fellow with strong expertise in cell line development, molecular and cellular biology, advanced imaging, and in vivo disease models. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving mechanistic and translational research projects focused on kidney injury, regeneration, and disease modeling. This position will provide opportunities for independent project leadership, publication, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

1. Cell Line Development & Gene Integration

  • Perform transfection using chemical, physical, and viral methods.
  • Establish and maintain stable cell lines for mechanistic studies.

2. Molecular & Cellular Biology Techniques

  • Culture and bank various mammalian adherent and suspension cell lines.
  • Perform cell-based functional assays (e.g., proliferation, invasion, migration, clonogenic assays, angiogenesis assays).
  • Execute DNA damage and oxidative stress assays (e.g., comet assay, ROS assay).
  • Carry out molecular biology workflows including PCR/qPCR, ddPCR, siRNA knockdown, cloning, and electrophoresis.

3. Protein and Imaging Techniques

  • Perform Western blotting, flow cytometry (including cell sorting), ICC/IHC, immunofluorescence staining, and zymography.
  • Conduct advanced imaging using fluorescence, DIC, multiphoton, and confocal microscopy.
  • Prepare and section samples for histological analysis.

4. Bioinformatics & Genomics

  • Conduct RNA-seq analysis: QC, alignment, and differential gene expression using tools such as FastQC, HISAT2/STAR and DESeq2.
  • Perform data visualization and statistical analysis.

5. Organoid & Co-Culture Models

  • Establish and maintain 3D organoid cultures and co-culture systems mimicking complex tissue microenvironments.
  • Apply organoid systems for disease modeling, drug testing, and regenerative studies.

6. In Vivo Models

  • Manage breeding colonies of transgenic mice, genotyping, and sample collection.
  • Perform surgical procedures (e.g., Ischemia/reperfusion, unilateral ureteral obstruction).
  • Conduct rodent behavioral analyses and participate in veterinary procedures (injections, surgeries).
  • Design and write IACUC protocols.

7. Data Management, Compliance and Analytical Skills

  • Maintain accurate and detailed electronic lab records.
  • Work safely in BSL2 laboratories following biosafety regulations.
  • Perform statistical analysis and data visualization.
  • Clinical sample tests (i.e. ELISA)

8. Laboratory Management & Training

  • Oversee daily laboratory operations, including inventory management and procurement of reagents and supplies.
  • Support training and supervision of junior fellows, research assistants, and students in experimental techniques and safety procedures.
  • Contribute to maintaining a collaborative, well-organized, and efficient research environment.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant postdoctoral research experience.
  • Proven expertise in molecular cloning, gene editing, and advanced cell culture.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in in vivo models and surgical techniques.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Publication record in peer-reviewed journals.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in RNA-seq and bioinformatics analysis.
  • Familiarity with organoid models and imaging.
  • Prior experience mentoring junior researchers or students.
