Registered Nurse PD

Summary:

Under general supervision aides in the coordination of care for patients having surgery at the Spine Center at The Miriam Hospital. Serves as a dedicated resources for patients undergoing spine surgery guiding them through the continuum of care from initial consultation to post-operative recovery. This role focuses on patient education care coordination and advocacy ensuring a seamless high-quality experience while promoting optimal surgical outcomes.

Patient Education and Support

� Provide comprehensive pre-operative and post-operative education to patients and their families regarding the spine surgery process expectations and recovery.

� Address patient concerns and questions ensuring they feel informed and empowered throughout their treatment journey.

� Develop and distribute educational materials including mobility guidelines and recovery protocols.

Care Coordination

� Serve as a point of contact for spine surgery patients.

� Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including surgeons nurses physical therapists and case managers to facilitate smooth transitions of care.

� Monitor patients' progress post-surgery and coordinate with providers for any necessary interventions or adjustments.

Quality & Safety Initiatives

� Support program initiatives by reinforcing all surgical protocols/ clinical guidelines with patients and nursing staff.

� Identify and address barriers to care including social determinants of health to optimize patient outcomes.

� Participate in quality improvement efforts data tracking and outcome analysis related to spine surgery patients as needed.

Patient Advocacy & Communication

� Act as a liaison between patients families and the healthcare team to ensure individualized patient-centered care.

� Facilitate communication between departments to reduce care delays and improve patient experience.

� Advocate for patients� needs ensuring alignment with best practices and evidence-based care.

Other

� Maintains departmental records including confidential information such as patient and personnel data. Initiates files updates and purges records as necessary including data entry and storage.

� Performs literature searches on a given topic as requested by Director or Manager. May maintain departmental resource library.

� Attends and participates in departmental meetings as required.

� Participates at scheduled off-site education and promotional events.

Qualifications

Education:

Registered Nurse (RN) with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master�s degree preferred.

Licensure & Certification:

� Current RN license in State of Rhode Island

� BLS certification required

Experience:

� Minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience preferably in spine surgery orthopedics or perioperative care.

� Knowledge of care pathways and post-operative recovery strategies.

� Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Superior interpersonal problem-solving organization and leadership skills.

� Ability to identify training and development needs of staff and to develop and implement in-house and community education outreach programs/ workshops.

� Ability to communicate effectively (public speaking skills) with diverse audiences including professional staff patients community media and other service agencies.

� Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the lifespan with consideration of aging processes human development stages and sensitivity to cultural diversity in each step of the care process.

� Computer skills including Microsoft Word Outlook Excel PowerPoint and Power BI required.

� Experience with electronic medical records preferably Epic.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

    Normal patient care environments with exposure to infectious diseases. Hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety precautions. Requires standing bending and sitting. Sufficient visual acuity and manual dexterity to use computer keyboard and other common office equipment. May work offsite at educational/ promotional events.
