Vice President, Data Architecture & Analytics

Reporting to the Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer, the Vice President, Data Architecture & Analytics plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of BrownHealth, by leading the data architecture and analytics strategy and operations for the enterprise.  This leader is a strategist who understands the flow of information, its context, and how it links across the enterprise to derive value within and for the business.  The VP will work in concert with all facets of the organization, ensuring that the Data Architecture & Analytics functions are delivering actionable intelligence to drive strategic growth and clinical excellence.



What you will work on:

  • Set the strategic direction for data, analytics, and predictive analytics for the enterprise, in collaboration with a broad group of stakeholders.

  • Ensure the data strategy aligns with and enables the strategy of Brown Health.

  • Oversee the continued team development and implementation of solutions that enables the access of insights to drive decision-making across leaders and staff of the health system.

  • Create a unified data ecosystem, responsible for data management and governance, promoting data literacy, integrity, access and overseeing the data platforms.

  • Provide the leadership to move Brown Health further along its journey as a data-driven culture, including advancing the data literacy and self-service capabilities to enable leaders across BrownHealth to make data driven decisions to advance strategic initiatives and improve patient care.

  • Develop strong, strategic working relationships with operations, clinical and technical leaders and teams across the organization.

  • Transform Brown Health’s data architecture into a modern, scalable platform enabling seamless access to high-quality data and analytics to support the provision of safe, high quality, innovative care and to support scientific breakthroughs.

  • Drive the development of tools, workflows, and integration solutions that eliminate data silos, improve accessibility, and enhance agility across clinical, research and operations while enabling compliance with regulatory standards such as HIPAA.

  • Serve as a mentor and coach to elevate technical expertise across teams, enabling team members to embrace data engineering and advanced analytics tools in their workflows.


Experience:

  • 15+ years of experience in analytics leadership or comparable experience

  • 10+ years of healthcare provider organization leadership experience, academic experience preferred

  •  5+ years of progressive leadership experience in leading cross-functional teams and enterprise-wide programs, operating and influencing effectively across the organization and within complex contexts

  • Experience in integrating complex, cross corporate processes and information strategies, and/or designing strategic metrics and scorecards

  •  Experience leading large scale transformation and improvement initiatives

  •  Extensive experience with modern business intelligence platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)

  •  Hands-on experience in both data analysis and data engineering, with a solid understanding of the tools, processes, and challenges involved

  • Experience with data and analytics governance, including policy setting, enforcement and execution as well as data governance and master data management


Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  •  Advanced business acumen and politically savvy skills working across business lines at senior levels to influence and effect change to achieve common goals

  • Ability to effectively drive business, culture and technology changes in a dynamic and complex operating environment

  • Information strategy skills including strategic technology planning and execution, policy development and maintenance

  • Ability to develop a framework for information and analytics governance as well as the ability to sell it and embed it within all levels of the organization

  • Proven data literacy including the ability to describe business use cases, data sources and management concepts and analytics approaches

  • Performance improvement, quality and change management skills in a healthcare setting

  • Advanced analytics skills with outstanding problem-solving abilities using analytics methods

  •  Proficient in SQL, Python, Power BI and Excel

  •  Deep understanding of healthcare data models

  • Hands-on knowledge of data warehousing solutions and extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) frameworks

  •  Experience with cloud technologies (e.g., Azure, Google Cloud, and AWS)

  •  Experience with Epic Cogito module including data models; certification preferred

  •  Experience governing data within business applications (e.g., Workday Prism Analytics) as well as enterprise data lakes, with the ability to evaluate and select the most appropriate solution for specific business needs.

  • Ability to develop a strategic roadmap for leveraging data and AI to achieve business objectives

  • Proven record of effective leadership including the ability to balance team and individual responsibilities; building teams and consensus and getting things done through others not directly under his/her supervision.

All senior leaders are expected to have strong skills in interpersonal interaction, public speaking, knowledge of budgets and healthcare finance, and high integrity, good judgment, attention to detail and teamwork


Other: This position is a hybrid of remote and in person, with about 2 days per week in the office.

Pay Transparency Statement

Brown University Health is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices in compliance with Rhode Island and Massachusetts pay transparency laws. The expected salary range for this position is $274,900 to $378,500 per year. Final compensation will be based on factors such as relevant experience, education, skills, and internal equity.

Applicants will not be asked about salary history, and all pay decisions are made in alignment with Brown University Health’s compensation framework and applicable state law
