Rehabilitation Aide PD

Summary:

The Rehabilitation Aide reports directly to the Clinical Manager/Assistant Clinical Manager/ and performs duties under the supervision of the Rehabilitation professionals. The Rehabilitation Aide assists clinicians in providing treatments designed to relieve pain and maximize functions of patients across the lifespan. The Rehabilitation Aide transports patients maintains supply inventory and prepares and cleans treatment areas. Provides office and systems support at all Rehabilitation Service locations for Physical Therapy Occupational Therapy and Speech Language Pathology/Audiology.

 

Responsibilities:

Principal Duties:
Once deemed competent and in accordance with the established treatment plan the rehabilitation aide:
� Assists therapists and assistants in patient care as requested
� Carries out patient intervention per therapist or assistant direction including positioning mobilizing and exercising patient

The supervising Physical Therapist Occupational Therapist Speech-Language Pathologist or Audiologist will be present on the premises and immediately available to the Rehabilitation Aide when providing treatment. A Physical Therapist Assistant or Occupational Therapy Assistant may also provide supervision but must be on the premises in line of sight and immediately available.

Additional Duties:
� Maintains gym and all treatment areas to Environment of Care (EOC) standards.
� Assists with EOC safety rounds
� Enters work orders as applicable to gym and treatment areas
� Maintains cleanliness of department equipment per infection control policies and equipment guidelines
� Maintains equipment logs
� Ensures that rehabilitation equipment including but not limited to: wheelchairs walkers and crutches are clean and functional
� Cleans and prepares treatment areas between patient use
� Maintains and inventories therapeutic supplies equipment linen and housekeeping supplies
� Transports patients to and from treatment areas exercising care in the handling of patients
� May assist with scheduling order entry charge reconciliation and scanning into Electronic Health Record
� Communicates in person or by fax/phone with patients providers healthcare team members referral sources and payers
� Assists with departmental statistics and quality assurance program evaluation and environmental and infection control activities
� Participates in meetings as required
� Performs other related duties as assigned or requested

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with patients and other members of the healthcare team.

Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to assist with providing care to patients throughout the lifespan with consideration of the aging process human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

Effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

Proficient using Microsoft Excel and Word software programs.

EXPERIENCE:

High School graduate or GED required. Associate�s degree preferred.

One-year related experience in fitness training or direct patient care such as a Rehabilitation Aide or CNA position required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Physical ability to lift position and transport patients. Considerable reaching stooping bending crouching and kneeling.

Frequent walking standing and lifting of equipment and patients.

Some exposure to communicable diseases and cleaning agents/chemicals.

Moderate physical effort (lift and carry up to 25-35 lbs.).

INDEPENDENT ACTION:

Performs independently within the department�s policies and practices. Refers specific problems to the supervisor and/or therapist when clarification of the departmental policies and procedures are required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

May direct volunteers/interns to assist with tasks related to environment of care.
