Summary: Under the general direction of the Director Capital Projects prepares feasibility studies architectural and engineering drawings and technical review and coordination of projects for the Brown University Health Health Care System from conceptualization functional planning design development project approval and implementation. Is responsible for the planning design and implementation of all projects as they relate to capital budget and facility master plan. Responsible for writing specifications for outside contractors and suppliers. Ensures that all projects whether the design is in house or by outside consulting firms are in compliance with all codes and regulations.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include design development and implementation of individual projects associated with the approved facility master plans in collaboration with department representatives. Specific activities include the following: preparation of design and construction plans; identification of mechanical system support specifications of equipment including diagnostic and treatment equipment required to complete the project; ensures design compliance with various regulatory codes. Works with project managers and engineers in the development of construction documents.
Monitors the development of the project assuring that the target dates are met and expenditures are within the budget. Regularly reports to the Director and makes recommendations for improvements or alternatives to maximize the budget. Develops and implements on an on-going basis quantitative and qualitative standards for the project team.
Works with outside planning resources engaged to assist in the process including architectural engineering planning and other consultant resources as required. Manages/coordinates with site operation user groups; organizes meetings prepares materials/presentations to facilitate interaction. Follows up with the information data reports and research as required.
Provides direction and evaluates the performance of architects projects designers and mechanical engineers construction field personnel and performs other related duties as requested. Participates with the Director providing technical advice and guidance in the training of staff and outside contractors and consultants.
Obtains approvals from local state and federal agencies. Participates in the commissioning of projects. Inspects all projects and participates in acceptance testing reviews test reports before final payment for services are made.
Reviews specifications of proposed major equipment purchases to determine compliance with the institutions� standards as well as computability with current facilities.
Participates in the development of CON�s feasibility studies financial analyses cost estimates and other studies and reports intended for Senior and other Managers Board members and outside agencies.
Works with the outside planning resources engaged to assist in the process including architectural engineering planning and traffic of other constant resources as required. Manages/coordinates user groups organizes meetings prepares material /presentations to facilitate interaction. Follows up with information data report and research as required.
Keeps technical skills up to date and to remain current on planning and health care industry trends changes legislation and regulation through attendance at training courses seminars and workshops reading of industry literature and other educational activities sharing/orienting other staff on information learned and acquired as appropriate.
Other information: BASIC KNOWLEDGE: Completion of post-undergraduate education leading to a Masters Degree in architecture or related field of study. Registered Architect license preferred. Knowledge of computer aided design (CAD) database development analysis and reporting. Demonstrated expertise in microcomputer and software in a networked environment including database spreadsheets word-processing and graphics. The interpersonal skills to interface effectively with outside Contractors Architects Engineers utility Company as well as hospital executives managers and staff. The analytical ability to trouble shoot complex projects to plan design and estimate large and complex construction projects. Knowledge of execution of construction work. Thorough knowledge of Building and Zoning Codes Joint Commission NFPA and OSHA as well as ADA regulations and FGI Guidelines EXPERIENCE: 10 years progressively more responsible related experience preferably in a healthcare environment. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills required. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Supervisory responsibility for up to 4 FTE�s.
