Program Coordinator

Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Chair of Neurosurgery and Director of the Neurosurgery Residency Program and according to established policies and procedures leads supports and synthesizes all of the Department of Neurosurgery educational activities to include all Neurosurgery Graduate Medical Education programs pre-doctoral education Continuing Medical Education and faculty development at Brown University Medical School.

Responsibilities:

Graduate Medical Education Programs:

Develops and implements a full curricula for both residency and fellowship programs in the Department of Neurosurgery as mandated by the ACGME.

Collaborates with the Physician Director Graduate Medical Education and the Graduate Medical Education Administrator for RIH as necessary to ensure academic program consistency of the Neurosurgery programs.

Directs the development and implementation of all compliance activities with regard to institutional and national requirements for accreditation of Neurosurgery GME programs.

Ensures completeness and compliance with established standards as they relate to residency and fellowship education

In conjunction with assigned faculty leadership administers the Fellowship Education Committee whereby all pediatric programs work together regarding common standards and issues.

Continuing Medical Education:

In conjunction with faculty leadership develops and arranges specific Neurosurgery Department Continuing Medical Education programs to include Grand Rounds conferences and special symposia.

Collaborates with Continuing Medical Education Coordinator as necessary to ensure appropriate CME accreditation.

Using a thorough knowledge of Continuing Medical Education programming acts as a resource to program participants and other hospital staff to provide information regarding the continuing medical education programs. Serves as liaison to all levels of personnel within and outside the system regarding these particular programs.

Participates in planning of specific departmental CME educational workshops symposia and lecture series.

Faculty Development:

Initiates plans and directs faculty development programs to support the faculty's ability to teach evaluate trainees and other faculty and ensure that RRC andBrownUniversityMedicalSchoolstandards are met.

Collaborates on curricular development.

Functions as administrative representative to the faculty regarding faculty development issues to ensure open communication and cooperation within the department.

Locates funding sources where necessary

Pre-doctoral:

Along with pre-doctoral faculty and staff integrates various clerkships and elective experiences into division activities and programs.

Attends clerkship-related meetings and seminars to ensure continued integration within the Brown Medical School education system.

Other Duties:

Is responsible for on-going development and enhancement of Neurosurgery Education web page.

Serves as administrative liaison in educational matters with other hospitals and organizations to facilitate communication and cooperation with these facilities.

Participates in development of departmental budgets to meet goals of educational activities.

    Other information:

    BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

    Bachelor�s level of knowledge in business practices and procedures GME finance and computer applications.

    Excellent written and communication skills

    Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and function independently

    Requires knowledge of the following:

    1) graduate medical education (residency and fellowship) faculty development and continuing medical education in an academic setting

    2) curriculum design and development teaching and learning principles

    3) standard policies and procedures of a university medical school department to include pre- doctoral

    EXPERIENCE:

    Two years related experience developing educational programs.

    INDEPENDENT ACTION:

    Performs independently with regard to the department�s policies and practices. Refers specific complex problems to the supervisor when clarification of the departmental policies and procedures are required.

    None.
