Cardiac Sonographer

SUMMARY

Performs echocardiograms on the population of patients 18 years of age and older. Performs other related duties, as required. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complies with all Lab standards in accordance with the standards for accreditation through the accrediting body IAC-Echo.
  • Functions in the role of Technical Director, if designated, as described in the accreditation standards of IAC-Echo.
  • Performs complete adolescent and adult echos including 2D imaging, M-Mode, pulsed and continuous wave doppler, as well as color doppler.
  • Demonstrates use of problem-solving skills to optimize the echocardiographic evaluation and tailor the exam to ensure that it is comprehensive and accurate.
  • Makes appropriate preliminary measurements, performing calculations, summarizing, and communicating the findings to the interpreting physician.
  • Assists cardiologist during Transesophageal Echocardiograms (TEE), Stress Echo/Pharmacologic Stress Echo, and other procedures including the use of cardiac imaging contrast agents and agitated saline.
  • Maintains all equipment and supplies pertaining to the Echo Lab. Submits requests for service of equipment as needed and maintains logs for such service.
  • Performs proper cleaning techniques for TEE probe.
  • Transfers and positions patients appropriately throughout the exam while providing a safe environment.
  • Performs portable exams as needed, using discretion due to equipment's weight limits.
  • Monitors patient's condition throughout the exam, reporting any unusual conditions.
  • Utilizes data in medical record (i.e. MD orders, history) to ensure specific clinical issues are addressed.
  • Schedules exams to maximize productivity and prioritize as needed.
  • Provides updated information regarding policy and procedures pertaining to the Echo Lab.
  • Establishes and maintains a monitoring system for Physician Peer Review and performs ongoing CQI (Continuous Quality Improvement) studies for the Lab. Submits reports to the Manager.
  • Maintains lab logs. Maintains patient charges.
  • Provides data for equipment evaluations and possible budget needs.
  • Utilizes standard precautions at all times.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Full knowledge of adult echocardiography and ultrasound.
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS).
  • Current CPR certification.

PAY RANGE

$39.56 - $65.28
