SUMMARY
Reporting to the System Director of Nursing Operations, the Clinical Manager, System Nursing Operations- Specialty Nursing provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all specialty nursing services across Brown University Health inpatient units. This role ensures the continuous availability of highly trained and clinically competent specialty nurses 24/7, optimizes resource allocation, and drives excellence in specialty care delivery. Specialty nurses under this role respond to all clinical emergencies and serve as expert resources in nursing practice across the system. The manager leads system-wide initiatives to standardize specialty nursing practices, enhance workforce capabilities, and support high-acuity patient populations with precision and responsiveness.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leads the coordination and governance of specialty nursing services across all affiliates, ensuring consistent standards of care and operational alignment with system goals.
Ensures uninterrupted coverage of specialty nursing roles including critical care, perioperative, oncology, and other high-acuity areas through robust staffing models and proactive workforce planning.
Streamlines specialty nursing resources across the system to maximize efficiency, reduce redundancy, and ensure equitable distribution of talent and expertise.
Partners with nursing leaders and educators to maintain high competency standards, support specialty certifications, and promote evidence-based practices.
Collaborates with workforce optimization, scheduling, and nursing leadership teams to align specialty nursing deployment with patient acuity, census trends, and strategic priorities.
Serves as a key liaison between specialty nursing teams and executive leadership. Provides data-driven insights and recommendations to inform system-level decisions.
Monitors performance metrics and patient outcomes related to specialty nursing. Leads initiatives to improve care quality, safety, and patient satisfaction.
Identifies emerging trends in specialty nursing and leads efforts to expand service capabilities, integrate new technologies, and support advanced practice roles.
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required. Master’s degree in Nursing Leadership, Health Administration, or Clinical Specialty strongly preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in specialty nursing or clinical operations across multiple hospital settings.
Specialty nursing certification preferred.
Proven ability to lead system-wide initiatives and manage complex clinical programs.
Strong leadership skills with demonstrated ability to influence, motivate, and guide multidisciplinary teams.
Expertise in workforce planning, specialty certification pathways, and high-acuity care delivery.
Excellent communication, strategic thinking, and stakeholder engagement skills.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
Supervisors all specialty frontline nurses across the system up to 50 FTEs.

$105,705.60-$211,369.60
