Summary: Reporting to the Brown University Health Vice President/Chief Medical Information Officer the Senior Vice President/Chief Information Officer and in consultation with the Brown University Health Chief Physician Officer Chief Medical Officers and Chief Nursing Executive supports in a leadership role Brown University Health�s informatics functions including effective use of clinical information systems providing a state of the art information technology experience for the academic program and fostering effective use of clinical information for clinical research.
Responsibilities: Consistently applies the corporate values of respect honesty and fairness and the constant pursuit of excellence in improving the health status of the people of the region through the provision of customer-friendly geographically accessible and high-value services within the environment of a comprehensive integrated academic health system. Is responsible for knowing and acting in accordance with the principles of the Brown University Health Corporate Compliance Program and Code of Conduct. Participates in development of strategic and tactical plans for the effective operation of information services for Brown University Health and its affiliates that are consistent with Brown University Health�s goals and strategic objectives and which integrate global trends in medicine informatics and information technology. Supports studies for the design and integration of IT systems and infrastructure into the medical departments� physician and other clinician workflow. Promulgates use of standard work as an important aspect of efficiency and effectiveness of process. Focuses on achieving the estimated economic value proposition. Studies trends in clinical informatics to implement applications that increase efficiency in patient care and provide opportunities for improvement in patient safety and quality of care. Develops standards and rules in the use of medical terminology in clinical applications to assure semantic interoperability within the health system and with the external community. Evaluates and approves clinical content for inclusion as best practice advice to clinicians as they use the clinical systems. Uses informatics tools to support the reduction of risk in clinical operations while minimizing and mitigating additional risk arising from IT systems implementations. Participates in various clinical advisory groups quality improvement teams and other multi-disciplinary teams in the design of clinical systems that support excellence in patient safety quality of care and research. Works with other healthcare systems public and private agencies and governmental groups to integrate the efforts of Brown University Health Information Services to fulfill the Brown University Health mission into other efforts with a similar mission. Maintains currency of professional credentials by participating in clinical activities in appropriate clinical settings and maintaining an active medical practice in area of specialty. Participates in applicable clinical research and publishes evidence based study results in professional journals. Provides educational opportunities to students and house officers in medical informatics and works with senior leadership to develop educational programs in informatics in collaboration with external institutions. Other information: QUALIFICATIONS-EDUCATION: Board Certified or Board Qualified in a medical specialty. Licensed physician with current licensure to practice medicine in the USA at least one state. Qualify for licensure in the State of Rhode Island and for appointment to the Medical Staff of a Brown University Health hospital. Board Certified in Clinical Informatics preferred. QUALIFICATIONS-EXPERIENCE: Five years as a practicing physician plus two years of medical informatics research or the equivalent experience. Such experience should represent a similarly diverse and operationally complex organization. Experience in managing complex medical computing research and development in a regional environment is preferred. Sub-specialty board certification in Clinical Informatics preferred.
