Nurse Practitioner

Summary:

The Nurse Practitioner will report to the Division and Medical Director of Pediatric Pulmonology and be responsible for patients in the Ventilator Integration Program (VIP) which provides services for infants children and young adults with chronic respiratory problems and are dependent on medical technology. They will also see patients in the general pediatric pulmonary clinic. The NP will primarily see patients in the outpatient setting but responsibilities will also include pre-admission and post discharge coordination of care. They will act as an educator and liaison to healthcare providers caring for these patients.

Responsibilities:

Demonstrates a mastery of nursing theory and practice with expertise in the management of patients with chronic respiratory diseases and that are dependent on medical technology. .

Manages a caseload of patients in partnership with the healthcare team to optimize health status and coordinate care over time and across healthcare settings.

Provides leadership in the development validation implementation and evaluation of standards policies procedures and critical paths to support the patient care delivery model.

Oversees care coordination in acute home care and ambulatory care settings as feasible.

Assists the healthcare team to achieve mutually agreed upon healthcare goals by providing necessary support education and encouragement.

Demonstrates advanced physical and psychosocial assessment skills and knowledge of family dynamics.

Provides direct care to patients in acute care ambulatory care and home care settings.

Provides advanced practice skills under the supervision of the Medical Director and Division director .

Provides expert consultation for clinical issues promoting increased knowledge and skills for the consultee.

Participates in the education of healthcare providers.

Facilitates the education of caregivers in providing care to their children with chronic respiratory disorders and that are dependent on medical technology

Annually completes mandatory safety and infection control netlearning BLS and ACLS/PALS.

Qualifications:

Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.

 

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Masters of Science Degree Graduate of accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Specialty certification required.

Baccalaureate in Nursing

Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) and PALS.

Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

EXPERIENCE:

Two years related experience as an RN in acute care hospital setting and preferred 1-2 years of experience as a nurse practitioner.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Inpatient and outpatient clinics occasional home visits

Capability to navigate stressful conditions associated with the challenges of patient care.
