Summary: The Service Line Coordinator works directly with frontline staff across multiple departments in collaboration with the Perioperative Leadership team directs flow of surgical patients and coordinates resources for a specified service providing guidance clinical expertise and mentoring to members of the health care team within the specialty while optimizing available resources to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
Responsibilities: Areas of major responsibility includeproviding guidance clinical expertise and mentoring to members of the health care team within the specialty while optimizing available resources to achieve optimal patient outcomes as evidenced by on time starts and turnover of ORcases management of case carts oversight of room setup and resource allocation. Implement strategies with leadership and surgeons to improve overall efficiency. Patient Focus Core Behaviors: The Service Line Coordinator collaborates and supports the health care team in the delivery of efficient safe and high-quality patient-focused care as evidenced by: 1.Providing/directing nursing care throughout the life span with consideration of the aging process developmental and cultural patterns in each step of the nursing process. 2.Identifying needed resources of the service to meet the need of patients family and colleagues. 3.Participation in quality assessment and improvement programs in order to evaluate effectiveness of care delivered. 4.Enhancement of unit behaviors through role modeling best practice. 5.Providing input in development of policies procedures standards of care and critical paths to promote positive patient outcomes. Human Resource Management Core Behaviors: The Service Line Coordinator is responsible to facilitate and provide quality cost efficient patient care as evidenced by: 1.Working with leadership to ensureadequate utilization of staff in the periop environment. 2.Documentation and communication to leadership of staff performance with recommendations for quality and growth. 3.Interdisciplinary collaboration to foster staff development. 4.Identifying staff educational needs and works with the Clinical Manager and Unit Teacher to promote learning. 5.Escalating nursing care conflicts related to the unit. 6.Contributing to service line appraisals and identification of future goals. 7.Respect for Rhode Island Hospital policies procedures including union contracts and standards of practice. 8.Meet with new surgeons to ensure onboarding preference cards and supplies are understood. Financial Management Core Behaviors: The Service Line Coordinator effectively utilizes resources to help facilitate cost efficient delivery of high-quality services as evidenced by: 1.Encouragement of financial conscientious staff with stimulation to participate in development of cost-effective ideas and plans. 2.Identify capital needs for the service line and work with surgeons for proposed acquisitions. 3.Encouragement of staff to develop and implement new concepts and technology into nursing practice. 4.Monitoring staff compliance to scheduling breaks and shift change. Departmental/Organizational Support Core Behaviors: The Service Line Coordinator is responsible to contribute to the organizational plan for development of short and long-term goals as evidenced by: 1.Providing service line coverage in collaboration with other coordinators. 2.Supervising unit staff. 3.Escalate when necessary nursing care conflict and problems related to the unit. 4.Communicating the status of unit operations activities and issues to the Clinical Manager or appropriate discipline. 5.Participating in unit management meetings to better understand fiscal/patient care objectives standards and goals. 6.Collaboration with nursing faculty to facilitate students to meet educational needs. 7.Participation in the formation of policy procedures standards. 8.Participation on organizational committees. 9.Compliance to JCAHO standards. 10.Receive notification of new technology and plan assess alert SPD for their assessment and make an educational recommendation for roll out in conjunction with the Education Coordinator Clinical Practice Management/Development Core Behaviors: To ensure the highest standards of patient-focused care the Service Line Coordinator will assist in the advancement of team participation by assisting the health care team to achieve and maintain clinical excellence as evidenced by: 1.Remaining current on the latest concepts techniques and methods relative to areas of responsibility. 2.By demonstrating flexibility and recognizing the needs for the overall organization. 3.Collaborating with the health care team to foster communication with patients and family members to facilitate positive patient outcomes and discharge planning. 4.Participation in professional organization. 5.Maintain preference cards with service line/surgeon updates on a regular basis and as needed. 6.Round on service line daily to support needs and assess resource allocation. 7.Review nursing documentation for complete and correct fields especially related to implanted materials for regulatory compliance. In the role of Service Line Coordination is responsible for the operational financial and communication efforts as in the performance of: 1.Reviewing daily schedule of surgical procedures assesses patient care needs and assigns staff accordingly. 2.Collaborates with anesthesia floor coordinator to provide timely appropriate care to add-on patients based upon acuity. 3.Coordinates with leadership to support development/implementation of department specific improvements/goals. 4.Ensures that cases start at scheduled time and turnover times are within defined parameters. 5.Responsible for efficient utilization of clinical and ancillary staff. 6.Participates in development of department operational and capital budgets with specific emphasis on "global" needs of department. 7.Keeps coordinators staff and PACU apprised of schedule changes and pertinent information in a timely fashion. 8.Keeps anesthesia floor coordinator informed about staff as it relates to completion of surgical schedule. 9.Inform surgeons about schedule changes impacting their scheduled time. 10.Communicates frequently with patient significant others in the waiting room. 11.Responsible for communicating relevant schedule information with off shift and weekend staff. 12.Verbal/written communication is simple direct and clear. 13.Meets daily/or as needed with Clinical Manager to communicate daily plan and to discuss issues/needs: i.e. equipment personnel surgeon needs.
Other information: Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. QUALIFICATIONS-EDUCATION: Must have current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island. Maintains an active CEU/Education file. QUALIFICATIONS-EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 3 years relevant experience with demonstrated clinical and leadership skills. Maintains mandatory skills; remains current in practice and technology; as an active member of AORN.
