Summary:

Staff cardiovascular surgeon under the supervision of the Chief of Cardiac Surgery.

Responsibilities:

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The physician shall perform the following functions among others not specifically delineated here:

Administrative

Promote and follow the Corporate Values and the Guiding Principles of Brown University Health

Act in accordance with and provide leadership to others in the Division and organization regarding the principles of the Brown University Health Corporate Compliance Program and Code of Conduct

Participate in the Hospital�s and Division�s of Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement Plan to ensure compliance with the requirements of The Joint Commission and those of other appropriate regulatory agencies and organizations

Promote the customer-faced quality improvement principles of Brown University Health�s Total Quality Management program throughout the department�s administrative organization

Participate in quality improvement patient satisfaction and patient safety initiatives and committees in the Division hospitals and Brown University Health

Follow the Chief�s team-based patient safety program that ensure the training of patient care teams and the integration with existing patient safety programs at other Brown University Health hospitals and others in and outside the region

Provide the timely performance evaluations of all direct reports for employees staff and faculty that incorporate measurable indicators and goral and/or performance incentives

Function effectively with accrediting regulatory local regional and administrative groups; the medical community and the population served

Clinical Services

Provide a high quality of clinical care

Deliver efficient and cost-effective clinical services

Serve on committees or councils as appropriate

Academic/Educational

Serve on any AMC committee related to graduate medical education as appropriate

Seek professional and scholarly growth

Serve as a role model to other faculty in the Division as appropriate

As applicable provide high quality undergraduate graduate and postgraduate medical education activities and supervision of interns residents and fellows and programs in the department and their compliance with outcome goals of the Brown Medical School and applicable regulatory organizations

Participate actively in the teaching activities of the Division

Serve on the AMC Research Advisory Committee as appropriate

Endeavor to obtain extramural research funding as appropriate and relevant

Collaborate in research with other departments in Brown University Health and the Medical School

    EDUCATION:

    Medical degree; board certification in Cardiovascular Surgery; subspecialty certification if applicable

    EXPERIENCE:

    Demonstrated leadership management and administrative skills in clinical medicine medical education and clinical and/or biomedical research in an academically oriented health care institution. Proven clinical expertise in an appropriate medical discipline.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Work is performed in a typical hospital environment requiring extended periods of sitting standing and walking.

    INDEPENDENT ACTION:

    Functions independently within broad scope of department policies and procedures; refer specific problems to Chief only where clarification or exception may be required.
