SUMMARY:
The Pre-K Teacher Assistant is responsible for assisting the classroom teacher in supervising children to ensure their safety and well being; providing instruction and facilitation to groups and individual children under the direction of the Teacher; and collaborating with the Teacher to assess the strengths and needs of children and design appropriate classroom activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist teacher in any way possible, which may include, but is not necessarily limited to:
a. Plan activities for assigned groups or individual children.
b. Implement the daily schedule as assigned.
c. Decorate the room with bulletin boards, pictures, children's art work, and other hangings.
d. Serve breakfast, lunches, and snacks.
e. Help with materials and room clean-up and organization.
Provide nurturing and supportive environment for children, using positive behavior interventions and preventative strategies to manage classroom behavior.
Complete required number of training hours each year by local workshops and trainings.
Assume temporary responsibilities of the teacher in her/his absence.
Report any special needs or problems of individual children to the classroom teacher.
Work with children who have special needs, supporting their developmental and behavioral characteristics.
Report any cases of suspected child abuse and/or neglect to Director, or make a direct call to DCYF (1-800-RICHILD).
Assist in supervising naptime, outdoor play and toileting.
Assists the Teacher in implementing educational plans to meet the needs of individual students.
Confers with teacher in preparation of school reports.
Assistant will give input as necessary.
Assistant will complete weekly progress notes to be mailed each and every Friday.
Effect a positive learning environment.
Assistant will actively participate in teacher directed activities with the students.
Assistant will create bulletin boards and other classroom decorations as requested by the teacher.
Assistant will maintain positive student-staff relationships.
Cover exploratory, Friday activity, lunch periods and bus duty as scheduled.
Assistant will plan and co-ordinate exploratory.
Exploratory plan will be submitted one week in advance as per policy and procedure.
Plan and coordinate Friday activity as scheduled and report to staff regarding activity at Tuesday staff meeting.
Covers class lunch table.
Assistant will be on time and monitor bus duty as per policy and procedure on assigned day.
Effectively manage behaviors within the classroom and other settings within the program.
Follows CAP City policies and procedures regarding behavior management.
Attends training and uses non-violent crisis intervention as taught.
Modifies programming as necessary to positive behavior.
Uses Reality Therapy or other psycho-educational method to affect positive behavior change.
Attends weekly staff supervision meetings and general meetings.
Attends 90% of scheduled staff and team meetings including days the assistant is absent.
Attends 90% of supervision meetings unless there is a scheduling conflict due to changing needs of the school.
Attends at least two general staff meetings per year.
Performs various duties as requested by the classroom teacher.
Corrects papers and tests.
Runs off dittos.
Gives tests as directed.
Gets snack and other classroom supplies.
Monitors store time.
Monitors break time.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
CDA or active participation in CDA program or completion of RIDE-approved Teacher Assistant Training Program OR 12 credit hours of early childhood or related coursework
Level I or II RIELS certification preferred (must be able to complete within 2 years from date of employment)
Language Skills -Ability to read and interpret lesson plans and books. Ability to write and/or print posters and signs.
Mathematical Skills -Ability to perform basic mathematical skills ( addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)
Reasoning Ability -Ability to recognize problems.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations -. Ability to work towards CPR &first aid certification
Ability to work towards CDA certification

Pay Range:
