SUMMARY
The Radiation Therapist Educator will report to the Clinical Manager, Radiation Oncology, and work closely with the Chief Radiation Therapist, Medical Director, and Medical Physics leadership.
The Radiation Therapist Educator at Brown University Health is an advanced clinical and educational leader responsible for the onboarding, education, competency validation, and professional development of radiation therapists across the Radiation Oncology service line. This role supports Brown University Health’s mission to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered, and academically grounded cancer care by ensuring consistent clinical excellence, safety, regulatory compliance, and adoption of evolving radiation therapy technologies and practices.
The Educator serves as a clinical expert, mentor, and change agent, supporting workforce development across hospital‑based and community radiation oncology sites while fostering a culture of continuous learning, safety, and collaboration.

Education, Training & Workforce Development
- Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of structured onboarding and orientation programs for new radiation therapists, including full‑time, per diem, traveler, and student staff.
- Develop and deliver ongoing education, annual competencies, and skills validation aligned with Brown University Health standards, evidence‑based practice, and departmental priorities.
- Coordinate and support clinical education for students and trainees in partnership with academic affiliates and departmental leadership.
- Provide individualized coaching, mentorship, and remediation plans to support professional growth, performance improvement, and retention.
- Contribute to succession planning and career development pathways for radiation therapy staff.
Clinical Practice, Quality & Safety
- Serve as a clinical subject matter expert in radiation therapy simulation, treatment delivery, image‑guided techniques, and advanced modalities as applicable.
- Support standardization of radiation therapy practice across Brown University Health Radiation Oncology sites.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, safety event reviews, and practice evaluations related to radiation therapy delivery.
- Support implementation of new technologies, workflows, protocols, and clinical programs through education, competency assessment, and staff readiness activities.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement consistent with Brown University Health values.
Regulatory, Accreditation & Compliance
- Ensure staff education and competencies meet regulatory, accreditation, licensure, and professional requirements (e.g., ARRT, state licensure, internal policies).
- Maintain accurate documentation of competencies, certifications, and required training in collaboration with department leadership.
- Support departmental readiness for internal and external audits, surveys, and accreditation activities.
Leadership, Collaboration & Culture
- Partner closely with Clinical Managers, Lead/Chief Radiation Therapists, Medical Physicists, Physicians, and Nursing leadership to align education with clinical, operational, and strategic priorities.
- Serve as a professional role model, demonstrating Brown University Health’s commitment to respect, teamwork, equity, and patient‑centered care.
- Support interdisciplinary collaboration across oncology services to enhance patient experience and care delivery.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
- Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy program.
- Current ARRT certification in Radiation Therapy (RT(T)).
- Active state licensure as required.
EXPERIENCE
Required
- Minimum five (5) years of clinical experience as a Radiation Therapist in a complex clinical environment.
- Demonstrated experience precepting, mentoring, or educating radiation therapists and/or students.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred
- Prior experience in an educator, lead therapist, or supervisory role.
- Experience in an academic medical center or integrated health system.
- Experience supporting implementation of new radiation therapy technology or clinical programs.
- Advanced modality experience (e.g., IGRT, SRS/SBRT, CT simulation).
- Formal training or certification in education, leadership, or quality improvement.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
- Ability to work in a radiation oncology clinical environment.
- Ability to stand, walk, and participate in clinical activities as needed.
- Ability to travel between Brown University Health Radiation Oncology sites as required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
Provides functional and clinical leadership through education, mentorship, and guidance; this role does not include direct supervisory or people‑management responsibility.
Pay Range
$82,284.80-$135,782.40
